Consumers have become very comfortable with their traditional phone service – they fully expect each time they pick up the phone to hear a dial tone and have relatively clear calls. While VoIP represents a new method for phone service that brings with it several customer advantages, its implementation can be riddled with technical limitations not in line with what customers have come to accept with their traditional landline service. A lack of meeting this expectation can quickly turn off potential customers, causing service providers to quickly and easily loose revenues through customer churn, increased technical support and other such scenarios. The NetWarrior VoIP module from Symmetricom is part of the NetWarrior suite. NetWarrior VoIP measures the quality of voice across IP networks according to MOS and R-Factor ITU standards. This is a welcome, cost-effective method to aid service providers in assuring high quality voice service to cash in on the promise of VoIP revenues. The same holds true for enterprises – Symmetricom’ VoIP solution can help enterprise managers assure VoIP performance to realize the productivity and business operations benefits that VoIP promises, rather than be riddled with potential deployment and VoIP application management problems that eat into the benefits that were being sought.

Carriers, service providers (SP) and enterprises that want to develop VoIP applications over their network infrastructure can use NetWarrior to generate deterministic RTP/RTCP VoIP traffic for quality assessment. Essentially, they can use NetWarrior to verify if VoIP SLAs are being met.

Automated report features from the NetAdvisor software module delivers proof of quality to customers. Tests are run between NetWarriors sitting at the Network Provider's edge (POP) for carriers or SPs or at the different strategic IT sites on a corporate network. Symmetricom's web-based manager, NetAdvisor, can manage multiple and different NetWarriors simultaneously. NetAdvisor is able to continuously monitor the performance of hundreds of NetWarriors across multiple networks.

NetWarrior range of products supports a large scope of commercially available codecs such as: G.711, G.723.1, G.729A, GSM and more.

At the management and / or operation level, automated results deliver Key Performance Indicators (KPI) such as:
- Executive summary containing key findings and recommendations organized by overall assessment performance, by day, hour, and location, detailed pair-wise location comparisons

- Analysis of top VoIP quality factors — round-trip delay, late and lost packets, jitter

- Running MOS and running R-Factor, per sampling Period MOS, per sampling Period R-Factor

- Latency distribution

- Impact of each quality factor on overall R-Factor and MOS score

- Performance against thresholds, packet loss details, calculated instantaneous call quality in real-time. Calculated call quality metrics at the end of the call, assessment duration: 1-7 days
