Network probes are core components of Symmetricom's QoE solutions to provide a reliable benchmark (MOS score) that enables CSPs to monitor and diagnose the perceptual impact of video quality impairments that may be introduced by either transmission over an IP network or from artifacts introduced by various encoding methodologies. Network probes work end-to-end, enabling rapid identification of symptoms affecting network health all the way to a customer's premise equipment (CPE), whether a a server, workstation or set top box.

Network probes give carriers, service providers and enterprises the tools they need to improve revenues and profits by increasing customer satisfaction while lowering technical support costs. highly available delivery of network value-added services.

Capabilities
Symmetricom's high performance and secured network probes collect and report aggregate statistics in real time for customer flow simulations and / or traffic flow analysis. Network probes support all relevant Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards for Internet Protocol (IP) performance metrics and the internationally accepted ITU Y.1541 specifications. In addition, they support IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, as well as unicast or multicast-based RTP/RTCP applications such as VoIP and ToIP.

Models Q-301 and Q-200 also support applications such as Television over IP (TVoIP, IPTV) as well as MPEG2 Transport Stream along with MPEG4 (H264/AVC part 10) video streams. This includes support for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) for easier deployment, and Secure Shell (SSH) for security. Network probes are synchronized via Symmetricom's patented timing scheme using Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) for increasingly accurate real-time reporting results.

Symmetricom network probes are fully compatible with our centralized management and reporting NOC software and software agents and run the entire library of Symmetricom software — including V-Factor™ technology — for optimum video/audio performance. Depending on the model and options, network probes can be equipped with a GPS or a TXCO oscillator that provides the excellent synchronization required for accurate measurements of key metrics such as IP Performance metrics (as defined in RFC 2330, ITU-T 1540 and ITU-T 1451).

Q-400
Ideal for IPTV and VoIP applications and deployable across backbones or large PoPs, Q-400 monitors up to 400 SD or up to 1.2 Gbps of HD H.264 IPTV streams and up to 10,000 VoIP streams in parallel in full passive mode. It supports unicast/multicast in full passive mode, MPEG2TS for any MPEG2 or H264 IPTV stream, and audio and video scoring. It supports 10/100/1000 UTP, Gig Fiber SX and LX, and 10Gbps Fiber.

Q-301
Q-301 is ideal for backbones or large PoPs, offering the highest test capacity and supporting 10/100/1000 UTP and SX and LX fiber ports.

Q-200
The highly flexible Q-200 is a medium performance network probe designed to deliver performance visibility of premium services on live IP networks. The Q-200, which is ideal for video applications, complements the Q-301 probe for the distributed monitoring of backbones and offers configurable test capacities of 10/100/1000 unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and SX ports.

Q-101
The new Q-101, which is ideal for core IP Performance Metrics (IPPM) monitoring, offers a test capacity of one 1000 UTP test port.
Designed for live IP networks, Symmetricom network probes offer a cost effective solution for end-to end visibility of network performance at large-scale deployments, when multiple endpoints are essential, such as at small Point Of Presences (POP) or with Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). |
